"It was a tough one. I made a couple of mistakes and they hit it out of the ballpark," Johan Santana after last night's loss to the Cubs.
The Mets number two ace allowed a career-high 13 hits and seven earned runs in just four and two-thirds innings. His record now stands at 6-5 and his ERA went from 2.76 to 3.24 for the season.
After last night's game, Santana cited poor execution and his inability to keep the ball down as the reasons for his disappointing performance. However, some felt that his lack of command may have stemmed from having his ankle stepped on by Reed Johnson in the fifth while attempting to cover first base. Johnson was safe on the play. Santana went on to give up five runs, four of those runs from home runs.
