MPR - Thursday Night's Intro - 08/18/11

Hello my fellow Mets fans…...

As you know, the Mets had the day off today. Friday will open up a weekend series with one of the hottest teams in baseball, the leaders of the National League Central division, the Milwaukee Brewers, who currently have a comfortable 6 1/2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals...

It looks more than likely that Mike Pelfrey will be making the start for the Mets opposite Shaun Marcum. If you remember, last Saturday, Pelfrey was hit in the arm with a line drive off the bat of the Diamondbacks Gerardo Parra. Pelfrey left that game with a 4-2 lead only to see it squandered by a three-run home run by Arizona’s Ryan Roberts off of DJ Carrasco.

Reports are coming out of Mets camp that it is “conceivable” that Jose Reyes may be coming back sooner than later. Reyes is eligible to come off the DL on August 23rd, next Tuesday.

I’ll see it when I believe it, he’s not coming off the DL, why should he, I spoke about this briefly on Monday night, that the Mets should just shut the guy down. Meaning, don’t rush him back. Why does he have to play? See what you get out of Ruben Tejada.

If Reyes’ asking price after the season is too high, he can take his bum hamstring and go play for the Washington Nationals. Look at Beltran, he was traded to the Giants, and now he’s on the DL with a strained right hand and wrist, believe me, if the Mets are unable to sign Reyes, or some other team throws a ton of money at him, is it really that big a deal?

Maybe injury-prone is injury-prone and Reyes may be one of those players...
